Headquarters Readiness and Integration Organization recently launched a series of Defense Travel System training videos for Individual Reservists.

“Our DTS videos are part of a larger initiative to develop easy and accessible videos to assist IRs who create mission impact,” said MSgt. Iliah Duncan, Readiness and Training Manager, HQ RIO.

The process of developing the videos involved working closely with HQ RIO travel technicians who process authorizations and vouchers and regularly see errors that result in these items being returned to the IR.

“The IR community was accustomed to using the paper version DD Form 1351-2 for many years,” said TSgt Marissa Rustici, Financial Management Technician, HQ RIO. “The DTS videos are personalized and spoken in language that we can easily digest.”

Alongside RIO, Team Toffler, a contractor which is comprised of associates from Toffler Associates, worked together to produce the videos.

“The video series is relevant to both new IRs traveling on orders for the first time and IRs who need a refresher,” said Elise Johnson, Toffler Associates. “HQ RIO anticipates that after IRs watch these videos, fewer authorizations and vouchers will be returned, leading to HQ RIO technicians processing these items in less time—a positive impact that everyone can appreciate.”

The RIO DTS videos are part of a larger initiative to develop easy and accessible videos to assist IRs who create mission impact. Other videos developed this year for IRs include how to have a good FY & R/R year, readiness, deployments & exercises, formal school and classification waiver requests and more.

“Our team worked closely with RIO subject matter experts to identify internal and external pain points and develop videos that serve as a possible resolution to help mitigate those pain points for both SMEs and IRs,” said Duncan.

These videos can be found on HQ RIO’s Training page and on the HQ RIO YouTube page.
