The RIO Buzz Vol 95
I’ll start this Buzz with some Important Updates:
DTS Processing Update: Avoiding the “BIG SIX” Errors. In order to ensure continued outstanding pay support with the 50% reduction in civilian pay technicians, we are going to streamline DTS processing. HQ RIO is implementing a revised process for authorizations and vouchers, effective immediately.
- About 70% of all DTS submissions have errors in the “Big Six” areas, which slows down timely processing for everyone!
- Therefore, our travel technicians will prioritize complete and accurate submissions.
- To avoid delays, be aware that authorizations and vouchers containing any of the “BIG SIX” common errors will be returned to the traveler for correction.
- Important: Access the comprehensive list of the “BIG SIX” errors and helpful resources for proper submission procedures on the RIO Portal HERE.
Policy Updates:
- Gender Dysphoria Separation/Retirement: We expect to receive additional guidance early next week.
- DRP Administrative Leave & Military Duty (A reminder for IRs who are also Federal civilian employees): Administrative leave from your Federal civilian position is not authorized for military requirements or training. Remember, you have options like using accrued annual leave, military leave, compensatory time off for travel, or accrued sick leave (when appropriate) during military service. Please continue to report your military duty so your civilian agency can properly complete the required Absent-Uniformed Service (Absent-US) personnel actions. For more information, the Air Force has added a helpful FAQ (Q16) on this topic to their DRP Information Center Page HERE (CAC-enabled).
- Telework IDTs: A policy memo has authorized IDTs for May. We’ve asked for additional clarification regarding the IDT telework policy for June and the following months.
- Telework AT/RPA/MPA: No changes; no new telework orders are authorized.

Annual Tour Reminder. Deadline to submit FY25 AT orders requests is

June 1, 2025, require a Memorandum For Record (MFR) endorsed by the Active Duty Commander/Unit Colonel (O-6), Detachment Commander, and approved by HQ RIO.
- Keep in Mind: Late AT orders submissions risk disapproval due to availability of funding.
