This guidance memorandum provides guidance to IRs on participation in Standards and Readiness Reviews (SRRs). An SRR is a focused assessment conducted at the unit level to identify and address factors inhibiting mission readiness and execution. This assessment includes consideration of mental and physical health, fitness, ensuring appropriate documentation of applicable exceptions to policy, waivers and accommodations, deployment readiness, training, compliance with standards and overall resilience through direct, in-person engagement with all assigned Airmen.
IRs are expected to maintain exemplary conduct and consistently adhere to and enforce all Air Force standards. Therefore, IRs must proactively engage with their assigned active component (AC) organization to successfully navigate SRR requirements. This includes coordinating attendance within existing allocated duty obligations (e.g., 24 or 48 inactive duty for training periods and 12 days of annual tour). Splitting AT once remains an option for greater flexibility. IRs are expected to maintain open communication with their assigned AC organization to address conflicts and clarify expectations.
IRs are expected to prioritize solutions with their AC organization within existing resource constraints. Neither HQ AFRC nor HQ RIO will allocate additional funding for SRR purpose. However, AC organizations have the option to use additional funding mechanisms, such as military personnel appropriation (MPA), to facilitate IR participation in SRRs.
HQ RIO recognizes the authority of AC organizations to determine the most effective methods for enabling IRs to participate in SRRs to meet their organization’s SRR requirements. Therefore, HQ RIO will not issue specific guidance to AC organizations regarding IR participation, allowing for tailored implementation through mission command principles.
